Come To Love Local This Weekend!

This Saturday we celebrate all things Porirua business, with the popular Love Local Expo back on at Te Rauparaha Arena.

With more than 120 stallholders showcasing the best of our local products, services, crafts, sports clubs and community services, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

This year will feature a dedicated food court where visitors can take a break from shopping, and sit back with a drink or snack from the wide selection of food vendors.

"Love Local brings the best of our region together under one roof, shining a light on the innovation, service and quality of Porirua businesses," says Reuben Friend, Porirua City Council General Manager Community & Partnerships. "And it’s a way for us all to show support for our local industries in a tough economic market."

Love Local began in 2020 in response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, giving businesses a boost after lockdown and locals the opportunity to support local industry. As in previous years, entry is free, and stallholders also get their exhibition spaces for free.

"This is a massive opportunity for all of us to celebrate and show some love to our local businesses, most of which have faced pretty challenging times of late," Mr Friend says.

Visitors to the expo will once again have a chance to win a year’s supply (52 blocks) of Whittaker’s chocolate, but this year entries will be digital via QR codes, to help reduce waste at city events. Visitors simply vote for their favourite Love Local booths by scanning the QR code at each stall, and each vote is an automatic entry into the Whittaker’s competition.

"The booth that gets the most votes will also receive a People’s Choice award with a free photoshoot for their business as a prize, so it’s a win-win!" Mr Friend says.
