Gorilla Burger Sets Up Pop-Up Burger Bar At Wellington City Mission
Thanks to the team at Kāpura, Burger Wellington has come to the City Mission.
“A whole lot of people in Wellington won’t get an opportunity to participate in Burger Wellington, so for us it’s about doing as much as we can to include everyone.” says Kāpura’s Bryce Keith.
At lunchtime on Wednesday 10 August, a team of five from Kāpura delivered 70 burgers to Tā te Manawa (The Mission’s Community Lounge) and served the guests of the City Mission.
“Best burger I have ever had.” Says guest Raymond. “I had two they were so good!”
The Wellington City Mission recently changed the focus of Tā te Manawa. “In everything we do, we want to make sure we are treating people with dignity, respect and without judgment.” Says Janet Dunn (Poutoko Manaaki, Tā te Manawa). “So instead of offering a soup-kitchen style model, Tā te Manawa now provides a cafe style environment with barista coffee and table service. Bringing Burger Wellington to our Manuhiri (guests), makes them feel like they can be part of what’s going on, that they can be part of what a lot of people take for granted.”
“Being treated with this kind of respect makes you feel good.” Says guest Dion.
“We are delighted that Kāpura has acknowledged that for some, the enjoyment of Burger Wellington is simply out of reach. The team’s awesome generosity towards our guests and visitors is outstanding!” Says Wellington City Missioner Murray Edridge.
The Kāpura team served up a Gorilla Burger featuring a smashed beef patty, red onion, pickles, cheese, ketchup, and mustard.
