Candidates Taking A Stand To Shape New Plymouth District’s Future
Candidates are taking a stand across all wards and community boards for New Plymouth District Council in this year’s local body election. Nominations closed at midday on Friday and the provisional candidate numbers are as follows:
- 8 candidates for Mayor
- 17 candidates for six Councillors in Kaitake/Ngāmotu ward (New Plymouth city to Ōkato)
- 1 candidate for one Councillor in Kōhanga Moa ward (Inglewood and surrounding area). Elected unopposed.
- 2 candidates for one Councillor in North Ward (Waitara up to Waitomo District Council border)
- 2 nominations for one Councillor in the Te Purutanga Mauri Pūmanawa (Māori ward)
- 19 nominations for five Councillors at large (across the whole district).
Voters outside New Plymouth city area will elect five Community Boards, each with four board members and a local Councillor. There are:
- 6 nominations for Inglewood (Inglewood, Egmont Village, Tarata)
- 4 Clifton (Tikorangi, Urenui, Ōnaero, Tongaporutu). Elected unopposed.
- 7 Waitara (Waitara, Brixton, Lepperton)
- 6 Kaitake (Ōākura, Ōmata, Ōkato)
- 5 Puketapu-Bell Block.
Candidates’ names will be published and available on our website npdc.govt.nz/vote22 on Wednesday 17 August.
NPDC manages a $185 million budget, $3.5 billion worth of assets and 16 different business units for our residents so it is important people have their say on who governs our district and vote.
Look out for voting papers in the mail
between 16-21 September.
Timeline:
- 12 August at 12 noon: Candidate nominations and electoral rolls closed
- 17 August: Candidate names are published
- 16 – 21 September: Voting documents delivered
- 8 October at 12 noon: Voting closes midday
- 8 October from 12 noon: Preliminary results
- 13 – 19 October: Declaration of results.
