Another Wet, Restricted Day Ahead For The Coromandel

Rain will continue throughout today, Sunday 29 January, with up to 120mm forecast to fall in the 24-hour period until 2pm. Localised thunderstorms are also in the mix through to this evening.

While the eastern seaboard bears the brunt of the ongoing storm, our entire roading network remains under pressure.

  • State Highway 25A Kōpū-Hikuai, the 309 and Tapu-Coroglen roads remain closed until further notice.
  • The intersection of Weka St and Linton Cres in Whangamatā is closed due to a small tomo.
  • A number of slips have come down overnight on the Whangapoua Hill between Coromandel and Whitianga, and a large slip has has occurred between Whiritoa and Whangamatā. These roads are open however please take care and travel with caution.

All sites are being assessed by roading crews.

Our Civil Defence Rapid Impact Assessment Team is reporting in from around the district. We will provide an update after the 9am briefing.
