SH11 Paihia To Remain Closed To Northbound Traffic For The Long Weekend

State Highway 11 will remain closed to northbound traffic between Williams Rd and Bayview Rd in Paihia over the long weekend, after coastal inundation during Cyclone Tam last week eroded part of the road.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) says contractors had hoped the road could be reopened to traffic in both directions in time for the Anzac Day holiday long weekend, however, the road has continued to fall away overnight and is not wide enough to safely allow for traffic to travel in both directions.

The single lane will remain open for southbound traffic (heading toward Opua), while northbound traffic will need to continue using the short local road detour via Williams Road, Selwyn Road and Bayview Road.

This restriction is likely to remain in place for at least the next week while planning for a permanent fix is undertaken.

People are asked to be patient, treat crews on site with respect and drive with care.

NZTA thanks everyone in advance for their patience and support.
