Auckland Mainliners Will Have 24 Hr Needle Access
by Selwyn Manning
Auckland intravenus drug users will soon have 24 hour access to needles.
An electronic syringe dispenser will be erected at the Needle Exchange Trust in Auckland's Symonds Street this November.
Christchurch mainliners already have a similar machine and service.
Needle Exchange spokesperson, Simon Nimmo, says anyone 16 years and over can buy fresh injection equipment. The move is hoped will arrest the spread of disease spread by intravenus drug users swapping and sharing needles.
Health Funding Authority is providing funding for a one year trial of the machines.
