Jury Orders Two Louis Vuitton Cup Races Resailed

Resail Orders For Stars & Stripes and Spansih Challenge
Report courtesy of www.louisvuittoncup.com

The International Jury has voided the results of two of the Louis Vuitton Cup races sailed on Wednesday and ordered that they be resailed today.

The decision came late Wednesday night after a lengthy hearing in which the Jury heard a protest by the Spanish Challenge against the Race Committee's decision to race today in the prevailing heavy air wind conditions.

The Jury also heard requests from Hawaii's Abracadabra 2000 syndicate and the Young Australia 2000 syndicate against the Race Committee's refusal to grant them time before their starts in this afternoon's races to make repairs to their boats. The Hawaiian boat had steering problems and the Australians had broken a mainsail batten.

The International Jury upheld the requests for redress but dismissed the Spanish protest. It ordered that Abracadabra should resail its race against Italy's Luna Rossa and that Young Australia 2000 should resail its race against Stars & Stripes. Both races will be sailed tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow, AmericaOne is scheduled to race against Young Australia 2000 in the morning and against Young America in the afternoon.

The details of the Jury Decision were not available and will be published sometime Thursday.
