Atlantis Marketing targets pharmaceutical industry

Acquires leading pharmaceutical database management specialists

Auckland – July 20, 2000 –Atlantis Marketing today announced the acquisition of pharmaceutical database management specialists Data Magic Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

The take-over positions integrated direct marketing services company Atlantis as the premier supplier of medical professional marketing solutions to the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors in Australasia.

Established in 1992, Data Magic has offices in New Zealand and Australia and services an extensive international portfolio of clients.

“This latest transaction creates another growth opportunity for us to leverage our expertise in the provision of end-to-end direct marketing solutions in an area where there is significant demand,” says Atlantis Managing Director, Michael Whittaker.

“Data Magic has been highly successful at providing marketing solutions designed to help the pharmaceutical industry reach healthcare professionals, and in recent times, pioneered the DTC (direct-to-consumer) market in New Zealand and Australia,” Whittaker said.

“Atlantis will focus on infrastructural initiatives to support the integration of the two companies and deliver immediate added value to Data Magic’s existing client base.”

Atlantis already has a presence in Australia and Asia and the latest acquisition will add to its specialist capabilities in a new sector.

“In acquiring Data Magic we can capitalise on this growth by assisting pharmaceutical and health care companies find dramatic new sources of value through direct-to-consumer marketing.”

Data Magic has a team of 20, all of whom have a wealth of experience in pharmaceutical database management. Over the past eight years the company has grown steadily in New Zealand and established a market presence in Australia in November 1999.

Data Magic founder Roz Vickerman says she had considered a number of strategic business alliances before deciding on Atlantis.

“Atlantis has developed a very sophisticated business model and has applied that with tremendous effect for its clients. Data Magic’s clients have specialist needs and I believe these will be best served with the services and solutions Atlantis has to offer. In the end, Atlantis was the best choice for our clients,” Ms Vickerman said.

Michael Whittaker says Atlantis will continue to identify growth opportunities, through merger, acquisition and development initiatives that are tailored to the company’s immediate and longer-term requirements. “This highly strategic acquisition greatly assists Atlantis to take advantage of the many market opportunities originating in Australasia and consolidates our growing network in the wider Asia Pacific region,” he said.
