PM's Views On Free Trade Reassuring
25 November 2000
New Zealanders will applaud
the Prime Minister's stand on free trade, says Employers'
Federation President Robyn Leeming.
"The Prime Minister's address on Asia-Pacific trade underlined the fact that trade and investment have been responsible for the success of the OECD's top-performing nations," Ms Leeming said.
"It was also reassuring to hear the Prime Minister say that we should concentrate on the things we make best, and use the profits to buy what we can't make. Our exporters don't appreciate artificial restrictions or subsidies, but simply want to get on with the job.
"Employers are well aware that future prosperity depends on export markets and appreciate the recent initiatives by the Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Negotiations in Asia, South America and the Middle East."
