2001 Tourism Awards Open Monday

17 December 2000

Companies who want to enter the 2001 Tourism Awards will be able to start the process on Monday, Tourism Industry Association Chief Executive Glenys Coughlan said.

"For the first time, the Entry Kit is available exclusively on the Internet. All tourism operators who want to start the process of entering the 2001 Tourism Awards can access the Entry Kit at www.tianz.org.nz/tourismawards.

"We are encouraging all tourism operators to consider entering the awards. The entry process is based on internationally recognised criteria, that emphasises business excellence and quality.

"To win a Tourism Award is to have achieved the highest standards in business and tourism operations, and is a real recognition from industry peers that an operation is offering the very best New Zealand tourism experience."

Ms Coughlan says that several different categories have been added this year, following feedback after the 2000 Tourism Awards. These include a Young Tourism Professional Award. The People's Choice Award, introduced for the first time this year, will again be run in 2001, Ms Coughlan said.

Entry's close on 6 April 2001, and finalists will be announced at the TRENZ Trade Show in Christchurch in May. Winners are announced at the Tourism Conference, being held in Rotorua in August 2001.
