Television Broadcasters Reviewing Audience Measurement Contract
The New Zealand Television Broadcasters' Council is putting the supply of audience research information up for competitive tender in the first half of 2001.
Executive Director, Bruce Wallace said that the rapidly growing number of channels which will be offered to New Zealanders in a digital television world required the most up to date audience research service available. The Council had decided that the best way to ensure the on going quality and integrity of television audience research was to invite a small number of firms specialising in television audience research to tender for the contract.
The current supplier, ACNielsen, would be invited and the Council expected the company to be amongst the leading contenders for the expanded service.
The Council has asked Dr Peter Danaher to manage the tender process. Dr Danaher is the current auditor of the peoplemeter service for the television industry and Professor of Marketing at the University of Auckland. Dr Danaher said that he would be consulting widely with interested industry parties such as the Association of New Zealand Advertisers and the Communications Agencies Association of New Zealand.
The NZTBC represents the non-competitive interests of New Zealand's national free to air television companies: CanWest NZ, Television NZ and Prime Television NZ.
