Biggest NZ Tourism Trade Event Ever Just Days Away

The Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (TRENZ) trade show starts on Sunday 20 May in Christchurch and is set to be the biggest tourism trade event ever held in New Zealand.

TRENZ 2001 will see almost 400 international tourism and travel product buyers from around the world converge on Christchurch to do business with a similar number of New Zealand tourism operators.

The event is managed by the Tourism Industry Association (TIA) and Chief Executive John Moriarty says the importance of TRENZ can not be underestimated.

“TRENZ is the most significant business event for tourism operators in the year. Chances are that the tourists that New Zealanders see around New Zealand in 2002/03, will have had some or all of their tour initiated at TRENZ 2001.”

TRENZ is being held at the Westpac Trust Centre in Christchurch. Over 1400 delegates will attend in total. As well as the scheduled appointments that the buyers have with sellers, a variety of networking functions are being held. 2001 New Zealand Tourism Awards will be announced, and a farewell function at the International Antarctic Centre on Wednesday night.

Over 35 international tourism trade media will join over 20 domestic media for the duration of the event, which is expected to boost the economy of Christchurch over the event period.

TRENZ transfers to Auckland for 2002 and 2003 and will then be back in Christchurch for the subsequent two years.

TRENZ has grown to such a size that only Auckland and Christchurch now have the capacity to hold the event.
