Fly Buys Rewards Reach Half Million Mark

New Zealand's leading loyalty programme has issued its 500,000th reward.

Fly Buys rewards are being claimed at an average of one every two minutes of the working day, and the half-million milestone was achieved about mid-May, less than five years since the programme was launched.

At this rate, and with 220,000 New Zealanders sitting on redeemable points, the programme is on track to issue its millionth reward in less than a third of the time taken to reach the half-million milestone.

Loyalty New Zealand General Manager Alastair Hutchens said that the rate of redemption had surged recently as members took advantage of the everyday awards available. This demonstrated that the Fly Buys experience was much broader than the flight and accommodation rewards at the heart of the programme.

"Magazine subscriptions, perfume, and small appliances are becoming increasingly popular," he said.

Mr Hutchens said that the most ardent collectors of Fly Buys points were those who had recently taken a reward. "The experience of taking a reward obviously acts as a spur to even greater involvement in Fly Buys," he said.
