RECORD LAND SALE FOR KAIKOURA
Whale Watch Kaikoura has secured ownership of a piece of top Kaikoura real estate - in a confidential deal believed to be the township's biggest ever.
The 170 hectare section, 'The Point' on Kaikoura Peninsula, has been purchased by Whale Watch Kaikoura for several million dollars.
Purchased from a local farmer, the spectacular cliff top site will be developed into a Whale Watch research and visitor attraction centre.
Whale Watch managing director Wally Stone says the land acquisition is part of an exciting long term strategy for the company.
"We're very excited about securing this piece of spectacular land and our plans for the site will be in keeping with the area's rich cultural and natural history," he says.
Wally Stone says the developments will embrace the same values for which award winning Whale Watch Kaikoura has become well known.
The peninsula is home to a number of Maori Pas and archaeological research into the history of the land will be taking place.
Details of Whale Watch Kaikoura's plans for the site will be announced in coming months.
