Freedom Air Launches New Direct Flights From Auckland To Oz
Freedom Air today announced it will introduce new direct flights between Auckland and the Gold Coast and Hunter Region in Australia. The new services will be an international first for Newcastle Airport, in the Hunter Region, and also mark a major new route from Auckland for Freedom Air to the Gold Coast.
The new routes will give travellers the chance to save time and money on flights to Australia, with the convenience of flying direct out of New Zealand’s largest city. Take-off date for the first flight is Monday, November 12. All travellers who book flights on the new routes from now until October 30 will automatically go in the draw to win Freedom for Life! – an annual return trip for two to any Freedom Air destination for the rest of their life.
Value-based airline Freedom Air will fly direct from Auckland to Newcastle three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. It will fly from Auckland to the Gold Coast Airport five days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Introductory fares for both destinations start at $399 return.
Wayne Dodge, Freedom Air vice-president/general manager, says the new routes demonstrate the strength of Freedom Air’s business. “Freedom Air is growing rapidly, proving there is strong demand for value-based air services,” he says. “These new routes will make Trans Tasman travel significantly more convenient for a large number of travellers, saving them both time and money and giving them more scope to enjoy their leisure holiday time.”
“We believe this is the prime time to develop new routes out of Auckland, given the size of the market and the success of our provincial flights to Australia,” Dodge says. “Freedom Air also acknowledges the enormous contribution of state governments, businesses, local operators and tourism boards in both new Australian destinations in facilitating these new routes.”
Wayne Dodge will formally announce the new routes at media conferences on the Gold Coast and in Newcastle later today. He is to meet with government officials and business heads, including acting Australian Prime Minister John Andersen, who will attend the Gold Coast media conference.
The new routes come on the back of more than five years successful Trans Tasman operation, plus huge demand for the airline’s domestic services which launched in May. Freedom Air, a wholly owned Air New Zealand subsidiary, currently flies Trans Tasman between provincial centres of Hamilton, Palmerston North and Dunedin to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and from Hamilton and Palmerston North to the Gold Coast. It flies domestically between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
