Hyundai Motor Company Sees Rise in Exports For August

Hyundai Motor Company’s August sales of 62,011 vehicles in the domestic market and 70,443 vehicles overseas contributed to total sales of 132,454 vehicles, up by 5.2 per cent compared to July.

So far in 2001 the company has sold a total of 1,062,515 vehicles – up 6.2 per cent compared to the total of 1,000,370 in the same period of last year

Exports increased 14.9 per cent to 70,443 units against July exports of 61,319, with the help of continuous robust sales in the North American market and the beginning of Matrix sales in Europe. For the year to date exports of 589,403 were up 7.2 per cent against the same period in 2000 when 550,047 vehicles were shipped.

Holiday closure Domestic sales decreased by 4 per cent compared to the July figure of 64,592 but this was due to Hyundai’s plants closing for a week for vacation resulting in a lack of vehicles for the Korean market as well as the prioritisation of production for export sales.

Sales in Korea are expected to increase following the introduction of the Terracan 2.9 and Hyundai’s new coupe in September.

Commercial vehicles – including small to large trucks and buses showed continuing strong sales, with 21,085 vehicles sold during July. Although marginally down on July’s figure of 21,102, the August figure was up by 10 per cent compared to the same month last year.
