Who is the shopper who has won $1,000,000?

December 3, 2001

Who is the shopper who has won $1,000,000?

New Zealand’s first Kachingo! millionaire is somewhere in Auckland – but may not know he or she is instantly rich.

Last night’s winner – who shopped at Woolworths Grey Lynn on Tuesday November 13 – is yet to come forward. Kachingo! and Woolworths are hoping the winner will be in touch as soon as he or she hears the news.

The shopper spent $147.10 on groceries, which included Griffins Macaroons, Mainland mild cheddar cheese and Bluebird potato chips – all Kachingo! Super Lucky Buys.

“If you know anyone who has these products in the kitchen, that person could also have the $1 million winning ticket in his or her wallet,” says Kachingo! managing director Mary Vance.

The winner received seven Kachingo! game lines. The draw was broadcast last night (Sunday December 2) on TV2. The $1 million-winning numbers are 04, 06, 16, 21, 25, 27 and the power number is 20. The winning game line includes all seven numbers.

Mary Vance says people at the Kachingo! office are sitting on the edge of their seats.

“We had a fantastic experience last month when we got a call at 11.00pm from a Wanganui shopper – also a Woolworths customer – who suspected he had the $250,000 ticket, but truly couldn’t believe his luck.

“He was in his car the next day and drove to Auckland to pick up his cheque. We can’t even imagine how excited our $1,000,000 winner will be when the numbers are confirmed.

“What is also exciting is that 102 New Zealanders have won $100 (five numbers plus the power number) and 2,667 people have won $20 (four numbers plus the power number) from yesterday’s draw.

“Our experience is that a big cash monthly draw tends to remind people to check all their tickets so we’re expecting quite a few claims for $1,000 daily and $10,000 weekly draw prizes, too.”

Woolworths’ Des Flynn says the company is delighted to have another big winner.

“Since we joined Kachingo! in October tickets issued at our supermarkets have won more than $1.4 million including the last two big cash monthly draws,” Mr Flynn said.

Ms Vance says the winner should contact her on 0-9-309 4055 or call in to the Global Online Promotions offices in Auckland with the ticket. The easiest ways to check tickets are online at www.kachingo.co.nz or in any of the Kachingo! stores.

It is exactly 12 months since Kachingo! was launched with Super Liquor as its initial retail partner. Woolworths supermarkets, BP and KFC joined the programme in October this year.
