Summer Cyber-Skiving Solution

Solution For Businesses Struggling With Kiwi Summer Cyber-Skiving

Auckland, 4 January 2002 – Kiwi companies struggling to keep their employees focused on work during the sleepy summer period are being encouraged to use software to increase staff productivity.

CommSoft Group’s Netmaster software is being touted as a way to help employers focus their staff on the task at hand.

Martin Searancke, Marketing Manager for NetMaster, says many workers are preoccupied organizing summer activities; surfing the Internet to book their next holiday, follow the cricket scores and check out summertime events. Employers know the score (pun intended), but balance is still vitally important.

Nielsen/Netratings, which measures Internet audiences and advertising, reports that some of the most visited sites this summer include gambling, airline, real estate, sports and job sites.

“Netmaster provides real time reports revealing who is accessing what sites and for how long,” says Searancke.

Businessweek.com reports cyber-skiving accounts for 30-40 percent of lost worker productivity.

“Performance management is one of the major benefits of monitoring Internet use. At any time, Netmaster can tell employers how much of the day is being spent browsing the web, downloading files or watching live video feeds.

“I think most employers accept that staff may have their minds on other things over the holiday period and that there may be more visits to travel and gift sites than usual, but it is important that the balance between reasonable personal use of the Internet and large-scale time wasting be maintained – as at any other time of year.

“Summertime is the busiest time of year for some businesses, however many other companies struggle as employees use the Internet to extend their summer holiday via their desktop.

“By monitoring Internet use, employers can manage productivity and provide a secure work environment for their staff. Our research shows 75% of employees believe companies have a responsibility to employ such technology to create a safe and productive workplace,” says Searancke.
