Shell Leads Petrol Prices Down Again - Starts 2002 As It Means To Continue

Shell New Zealand today dropped prices on both grades of petrol by three cents per litre, effective immediately, bringing pump prices of Regular 91 down to 93.9 cents per litre, and Premium 96 down to 98.9 cents per litre in most major cities from 4pm today (Wednesday)

"We are pleased to be the first company in 2002 to again reduce petrol prices and this maintains Shell's commitment in 2002 to bringing Shell's customers the lowest possible petrol prices again this year," Shell's Retail Manager Bruce Emson said today.

"Shell spent 2001 leading more price reductions, limited-time discounts, and coupon discounts, than all of our competition combined."

The price reduction will not affect areas where market pressure has already seen prices fall to lower levels.

"It is too early to tell which way the crude oil prices will trend in 2002, but Shell monitors the situation daily and renews its commitment to bring the lowest possible prices again in 2002," Mr Emson said.
