Feilding To Gore, It Pays To Check Your Tickets!
From Feilding To Gore, It Pays To Check Your Tickets!
It’s one of the givens in life that it always pays to check the fine print on your tickets.
But it’s less often that it pays as much as it did last week for a Gore resident. The father of a young family just found out he has won $10,000 in the national rewards programme Kachingo!
To make things even more interesting, he had been issued the prize-winning ticket in Feilding.
A regular shopper at BP service stations, the winner had been stockpiling his Kachingo! tickets, accumulating them in his car.
He often reminded himself to check them at a BP before they expired - Kachingo! prizes must be claimed within six months of the winning draw.
But it was almost five months to the day after the October 22 draw that the winner was prompted to clean out his car and take the tickets to his local BP station.
“I was actually in the service station a week or so ago and a chappy came in with a whole pile of tickets. I thought to myself, ‘mate, you’d better check your expiry dates before you kick yourself’.
“I actually thought they were valid for 12 months. Thank goodness I checked the fine print when I got home.”
The winner had been living in Marton in the North Island before moving to the South Island for work early this year. He bought petrol when he was in nearby Feilding one day on business.
After cleaning out his vehicle, the winner took about 20 Kachingo! tickets in to the Gore BP service station and asked the attendant to check them.
“She couldn’t believe it when ‘winner’ came up on the screen. She said we had won at least $100 because BP would have paid out any prize lower than that there and then.
“I dashed home and dialled the 0900 number and found out we had won $10,000. I knew exactly what to do because we love the TV ads – our two year old calls out cash register noises every time it comes on the tele.
“It’s just great. It’s really taken off some of the pressure because things have been a bit tough lately.”
BP spokesperson Jane Diver says it always pays to check your tickets no matter how old they may be. “Check for the six month deadline,” is her advice. “We’re always happy to scan them at BP.”
The company is on a bit of a Kachingo! roll at the moment. A west Auckland Korean family won $250,000 in the January Kachingo! Big Cash Monthly draw after shopping at BP Tiverton in Blockhouse Bay.
And a motorist travelling on State Highway 1 in Taihape was issued with a $10,000 winning ticket on the Monday of Auckland Anniversary weekend. That prize is yet to be claimed, as are three $1,000-winning prizes issued by BP service stations so far this February.
In Kachingo! there are daily prize draws for $1,000, weekly draws for $10,000 and the big cash monthly draw of $250,000 that several times a year is expected to increase to $1 million. Also in the monthly draw there are second, third and fourth prizes comprising hundreds of $100 prizes and thousands of $20 and $5 prizes.
