Ombudsman Appointed Deputy Chair Of Asia 2000 Foundation
Sir Dryden Spring, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Asia 2000 Foundation of New Zealand, has announced the appointment of Judge Anand Satyanand as Deputy Chairman by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Hon. Phil Goff.
In announcing the appointment, Sir Dryden said, "I welcome Judge Satyanand as Deputy Chairman of the Asia 2000 Foundation and the wealth of skills and experience he brings to the position. He has been on the Asia 2000 Foundation Board since 1998, and his contribution to the board has been extremely valuable."
Judge Satyanand took up office as an Ombudsman in February 1995 after a legal and judicial career beginning in 1966. In the 1970s he was employed with the Crown Solicitor's Office in Auckland and was later a partner in the Auckland law firm, Shieff Angland. He was appointed a Judge in 1982. He undertook a number of tasks, while a Judge, on the Government Criminial Law Reform Committee and the Parole Board and was awarded a New Zealand Commemoration Medal in 1990.
Judge Satyanand has also been involved in a large number of community and sporting activities alongside his work as a lawyer or Judge, and he has written a number of papers and articles for various publications.
The Asia 2000 Foundation of New Zealand is a non-profit organisation dedicated to building New Zealand's links with Asia in business, culture, education and media. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been responsible for appointing the board members of the Asia 2000 Foundation of New Zealand, since its inception in 1994.
