Industry NZ ICT Sector Director To Chair International Internet Forum
Industry New Zealand’s Sector Director for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has been invited to chair a prestigious international forum in Paris on global internet policy.
Liz Longworth will chair a group of 18 experts from around the world at the second Expert Meeting on the Draft Recommendations on the Promotion of Universal Access and Multilingualisim in Cyberspace at UNESCO Headquarters. The meeting is from 25-27 March.
The focus of the meeting is global access to the internet.
Ms Longworth was originally selected to participate as one of the experts, but has now been asked to chair the meeting.
She has a extensive background in ICT, both nationally and internationally. As well as the UNESCO project, she has completed two significant assignment for the OECD in Paris on e-commerce and global networks issues.
Immediately prior to joining Industry NZ, Ms Longworth chaired the telecommunications industry’s number administration committee, where she facilitated discussions on one of the most contentious issues in telecommunications - number portability.
In her legal and consultancy practice, Ms Longworth specialised in ICT and new technologies, information policy, and dispute resolution and facilitation.
ICT is one of the three key sectors targeted by the Government in its Growth and Innovation Framework as offering huge economic growth potential, both in its own right and as an enabler for other sectors.
