Action On Skills Welcomed
16 May 2002
Business NZ is pleased that the Government is putting resources into improving the quality of information available for individuals, employers and tertiary education providers about skills and employment needs.
Chief Executive Simon Carlaw says there's a need for better quality information about skills, if providers and learners are to make the right choices to support New Zealand's growth and development.
He said Business NZ was particularly supportive of a number of key initiatives the Government is to fund including:
* a new survey of job
vacancies and skills shortages;
* a survey of the
employment and earnings outcomes for all tertiary graduates;
* better analysis and reporting of the Government's own
existing data;
* a new integrated web site with
information for job-seekers, employers, learners and
providers; and
* research on what helps employers to
improve employment and develop skills.
"It is also very encouraging to see the emphasis placed on integration with immigration policies and we look forward to working with the Government, its agencies and tertiary education providers to put these initiatives in place," Mr Carlaw said.
