Starbucks Chooses New Zealand Dairy Foods To Produce Frappuccino® Pre-Mix For Asia Pacific Markets

New Zealand, 16 May 2002: - New Zealand Dairy Foods will begin production of the Frappuccino® pre-mix for distribution to licensees of Starbucks Coffee International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Starbucks Coffee Company in the Asia Pacific region.

“Starbucks was looking for a partner in the Asia Pacific region to develop this unique product. After almost two years of development it is very exciting to be able to begin production. An extensive amount of work has gone into ensuring that the Frappuccino® pre-mix is an exact match for the popular drink consumed by millions around the world, ” said Kevin Bowler, General Manager Beverages, New Zealand Dairy Foods.

New Zealand Dairy Foods expects its production to reach several million litres of the Frappuccino® pre-mix each year to support Starbucks’ current and future business growth in the region.

The product will be produced at New Zealand Dairy Foods’ Takanini UHT operation.

New Zealand Dairy Foods was awarded the supply contract after an extensive review of suppliers. Kevin Bowler said that New Zealand Dairy Foods’ ability to efficiently produce a consistently high quality product helped win them the contract.

New Zealand Dairy Foods is the number one supplier of milk and milk based products in New Zealand, processing approximately 45% of the fresh milk consumed by New Zealanders. New Zealand Dairy Foods’ portfolio includes well-known brands such as Anchor, Fresh ‘n Fruity, Simply Organic, De Winkel, Country Goodness, Calci-Yum and Primo.
