Collaboration Key To Growth
The announcement today that BusinessNZ, the CTU and the Government will formally establish a tripartite partnership to promote skills and workplace learning is strongly supported by the Industry Training Federation (ITF) – the national body representing Industry Training Organisations (ITOs).
“This agreement comes at a time of record participation, achievement and growth in industry training – it represents a major commitment by all parties to further and significant expansion of industry training,” said John Blakey, ITF Chairperson.
Figures released today show that over 66,000 trainees were enrolled in structured workplace training in 2001 – up 5% from 2000. In addition, trainee achievement has increased significantly – up over 50% from last year’s 6,241 National Certificates completions to almost 9,500 in 2001.
“This tripartite coincides with record public and private investment in industry training and is exactly what is needed to drive up participation, quality and achievement,” said Mr Blakey.
Public investment has increased from $65 million in 2000 to approximately $71 million dollars in 2001. Likewise private investment has increased from $27 million in 2000, to over $30 million in 2001.
“Industry training has matured into a genuine and valued part of the tertiary education system. It is a cost effective, responsive, a high quality tertiary pathway that is enjoying strong industry and government support” said Mr Blakey.
