Wellington Drive Signs European Agreement
12/6/2002
Wellington Drive Technologies (NZSE:WDT) today announced an agreement with a European motor manufacturer.
The agreement covers production and supply of the standard Wellington DE066ZB motor and Wellington CH070ZA controllers with application-specific software modifications. Subject to satisfactory completion of trials, initial production will be at WDT's Auckland facility, although the agreement allows future production under licence in Europe .
"The agreement shows our strategy of offering drop-in ready motors and fans is making it easier for customers to decide to move forward," said WDT managing director, Dr Ross Green.
The motors are intended for the premium end of a domestic air-moving product range in Europe, where the end customer has volumes of 40,000 units per year.
Green said that the agreement showed that the marketing of WDT's motor technology was steadily progressing.
"We've focussed on premium segments of the air moving market, and have started to make an impact there. This agreement demonstrates that we are now beginning to gain some momentum."
Made from specialised plastics, permanent magnets and electronics, WDT's brushless motor design offers lower noise and longer life than conventional approaches. It also requires less than half the energy to run and can be made in virtually any shape.
Due to the extremely competitive nature of the European air-moving market, WDT is not disclosing the name of the signatory company.
