Scenic Circle Hotels purchases Blenheim hotel

Media release from Scenic Circle Hotels
Thursday 27 June 2002

Scenic Circle Hotels, New Zealand’s largest independently owned and operated hotel group, has purchased the Blenheim Country Lodge Hotel in Marlborough.

“Acquiring a property in Blenheim is a strategic move that will enhance Scenic Circle Hotels’ range of unique locations. This addition complements our other 15 properties and will meet the needs of the corporate and leisure markets in Blenheim,” says Scenic Circle Hotels’ managing director Brendan Taylor.

The group also has hotels in major North and South Island cities, and scenic retreats including Rotorua, Queenstown, Punakaiki and the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers.

Scenic Circle will take over the Blenheim Country Lodge Hotel on Monday 2 September 2002. The company says it will change the property’s name to the Scenic Circle Blenheim Country Hotel.

Blenheim Country Lodge Hotel is located just 300 metres from Blenheim’s city centre, on the corner of Alfred and Henry Streets. It’s been owned and operated by the Smith family in Blenheim for the past 25 years.

Mr Taylor says the property is an excellent fit with the Scenic Circle group because of its size, location, facilities and friendly atmosphere. “With 54 guest rooms and comprehensive guest facilities, the Blenheim Country Lodge Hotel is large enough to cater to an extensive range of guests’ needs, but small enough for its unique personality to shine through and to provide each guest with the personal, friendly service that Scenic Circle prides itself on,” he says.

The hotel’s 54 guest rooms include executive, luxury and bridal suites, and studio rooms (some adjoining). Its four meeting and conference rooms can accommodate up to 150 people. It also features an award-winning restaurant and bar, new spa and sauna facilities, a heated pool, ample off-street parking and several in-house services.

The Blenheim location is the perfect complement to the soon-to-open Scenic Circle Te Pania Hotel in Napier, allowing access to New Zealand’s two main wine growing regions.

“This is a positive move for the Blenheim Country Lodge Hotel and for Scenic Circle’s wide customer base. The hotel will benefit from being part of the Scenic Circle network, with advantages in areas such as group marketing. For our customers, in both the leisure and corporate sectors, it adds yet another option, another great New Zealand destination that they can visit and stay with a company that they know and trust,” says Mr Taylor.
