New resort brand expands into NZ

With properties on Queensland's Gold Coast and the South Island's Mt Hutt Village in Methven, Grand Hotels International has announced a trans-Tasman launch of its resort brand - Chancellor Resorts.

Grand Hotels International regional general manger for New Zealand, Mark Lind, said the company, which now operates 31 hotels in the Asia Pacific region, is delighted with the upcoming purchase of the Mt Hutt Village resort property, currently known as the Sovereign Resort.

Upon completion of the purchase Mr Lind said the resort will be rebranded as "Chancellor Resort - Mt Hutt, Methven".

"With 46 rooms, extensive conference facilities, restaurant, heated outdoor swimming pool and hot ponds; and offering a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including skiing, golf, jet boating, swimming, tramping, hot air ballooning and salmon and trout fishing, the resort property will have huge marketing potential."

Mr Lind said Chancellor Resort - Mt Hutt Village would operate as a ski resort during winter and at other times as a conference and holiday destination for companies and individuals respectively. The resort will also be offered as a conference venue to compliment other hotels, conference centres and resorts operated by Grand Hotels International.

"We are actively looking for other suitable 3 ½ - 4 ½ star properties, particularly in regional New Zealand, to add to the new Chancellor Resort brand.

"Regionally located resort properties in New Zealand offer international tourists the safety and seclusion they seek in a holiday destination," said Mr Lind.

In Australia, Chancellor Resort - Hope Harbour is a 99-suite international resort and conference centre, 50 minutes drive from Brisbane. It is nestled around a deep water marina on Hope Island. The resort offers blue water sailing, cruising, sports fishing and rainforests with golf courses, theme parks and the nightlife and excitement of Surfer's Paradise and Jupiter's Casino nearby.

Mr Lind said Chancellor Resort - Hope Harbour will be marketed by Grand Hotels International and the group will undertake all sales and marketing for this resort, Mt Hutt and other resort properties the group is looking to purchase or obtain management, sales and marketing contracts for.
