New Vehicle Status For Used Imports
New Vehicle Status For Used Imports
The Land Transport Safety Authority has given used vehicle imports the thumbs up.
All used vehicles imports will now be treated as “new” vehicles for the first five years of their life here – being issued with 12 month warrants of fitness instead of six monthly WOF’s.
Independent Motor Vehicle Dealers Association CEO Chris Drake says the industry has been working with the LTSA to ensure the Border Certification system only allows in vehicles that meet rigid quality and safety criteria.
All used imports supplied by IMVDA members undergo this Certification that includes intensive inspection of the vehicle’s structure, safety restraints, brakes, steering and suspension, tyres and safety systems.
All vehicles have to 'Pass' Certification.
The Certification standard is so high that approved vehicles can now safely be considered as good as vehicles sold new for WOF purposes.
Chris Drake says people have always seen the value for money aspect in buying a used import. Now they can be assured of the quality and safety regardless of what new vehicle distributors may imply to the contrary.
