Fonterra’s Environmental Initiatives

Fonterra’s Environmental Initiatives

“Fonterra is disappointed that Federated Farmers is getting ahead of itself by calling for a halt to the Clean Streams Accord process,” Chairman Henry van der Heyden said today.

“They are pre-empting a discussion that Fonterra is currently having with its shareholders, and are not helping us make progress on an issue that is fundamental to Fonterra’s long-term business success,’ he said.

“The Accord is a draft and will not be endorsed until after we have consulted with shareholders – that consultation is happening in shareholder meetings this week.

“Fonterra is working with its suppliers to achieve a marked improvement in on-farm environmental standards – because its important to maintain its valuable clean, green marketing image, internationally and nationally.

“Fonterra is conscious that achieving an outcome that most shareholders agree with is the only practical way forward for the company.

“The Co-operative is listening intently to farmer/shareholders’ concerns about the environmental proposals before them,” Mr van der Heyden concluded.
