The promotional fares for travel from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch Palmerston North and Hamilton to Brisbane start from $NZD429*return. Airfares from Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch to the Gold Coast also start from $NZD429*return. Flights from Hamilton to Sydney also start from $NZD429*return, with flights to Melbourne starting from $NZD449* return. Flights from Palmerston North to Sydney and Melbourne start from $NZD449* return. Airfares from Dunedin to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney start from $NZD459*, with flights to Melbourne from $NZD479*. *All airfares exclude airport taxes and insurance surcharges.

Nicola Forman, acting Freedom Air sales and marketing manager, says there's nothing like a mid-winter break in your favourite Australian city. Freedom Air is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air New Zealand, focused on providing everyday low airfares by not offering traditional airline add-ons like inflight meals and inflight entertainment. The airline has been operating for more than seven years and has carried more than 1.5 million customers.

NB: Passengers should note that a number of airport taxes and charges now apply on all flights. In addition passengers visiting Sydney will also pay a $NZD4.20 noise tax fee for passengers arriving into Sydney, plus a $NZD22.85 Sydney passenger charge for passengers arriving and departing from Sydney. Passengers flying in and out of the Gold Coast will also pay a $NZD4.25 airport fee.

In addition passengers arriving and departing from Melbourne will also pay a $NZD12.10 airport fee.

In addition passengers arriving and departing from Brisbane will also pay a $NZD10.85 airport fee.
