Electronics manufacturer Navman NZ Ltd has expanded its Australian operations to cope with the increase in its marine electronics business as well as launching two new divisions; Wireless Data and Land Navigation.
The company has moved its Sydney premises four times in its six years of operation in Australia.
Marc Michel, Executive Vice President of Navman marine division, says the company is rated as one of the fastest growing marine electronics companies in Australia, notching up a year on year growth rate of around 70%.
To date, marine electronics has been the mainstay of the company's Australian operations. Mr Michel says the company's continued growth has been due to its investment in R&D, resulting in high tech, leading edge products that are both simple to use and low cost.
Navman will also launch a new division in Australia this month. Navman Wireless, will be headed by David Maire (nephew of Navman president and founder Peter Maire). The company has already established a highly successful wireless data business model in the UK and in New Zealand, where its flagship product 'Fleet Manager' uses GPS information to monitor and track vehicles.
Navman Australia has also appointed a national sales manager for the company's land navigation division. David King, formerly of GME/Garmin, will spearhead the introduction of in-car navigation technology, beginning with the iCN630; a portable in-vehicle navigation product matching innovative street mapping software with the latest GPS technology to create a safe, easy-to-use guidance system. ICN630 made its debut in the US in January and in Europe at the giant electronics show CEBIT, in March.
