MEUG seeks clarification of power generator crisis
position
“Power generators are being asked to stump up with information which proves they are not gaining an advantage from the power crisis, and whether they have contributed to causing businesses to shut down operations.
“In an open letter to the largest 5 electricity suppliers the Major Electricity Users’ Group has asked for information to finally determine whether current high power prices are related to real costs, whether reasonable risk hedges are available, and what policy options generators see as necessary for the future industry structure.
Terrence Currie, Chairman of the Major Electricity Users’ Group (MEUG), said, “It is now time for the generators to come clean – to join the discussion about how we got here and what to do next.”
“There’s a lot of rumour and accusations – but without information that only the generators can provide, power users and the government will remain in the dark and at the generator’s mercy.
“If
the generators have nothing to hide then disclosure of the
information we request should be straightforward,” Mr Currie
said.
