Timber Feds Welcome Scientific Findings

ERMA REVIEW OF CCA TREATED TIMBER CALL FOR DOMINION POST TO APOLOGISE

“The New Zealand Timber Industry Federation welcomes the scientific findings of the ERMA Review which confirms its belief that CCA treated timber is a safe product when handled in accordance with the WOODmark® standards.

“The general thrust of its recommendations is supported however we look forward to working with the relevant government agencies to ensure they can be implemented in an efficient and practical way.

“We find it interesting that the ERMA Report effectively damns the scientific credibility of both the Maas Report and the Dominion Post’s findings of contamination in Wellington playgrounds.

“These were the basis of the Dominion Post’s campaign which led to the ERMA Review.

“ We call upon the Dominion Post to apologise to the public for trying to scare parents into believing their children are at significant risk of cancer from playing in playgrounds using CCA treated pine.

“The ERMA Report states “…it has not been established that there is a health risk from CCA treated timber in public areas, including playgrounds…”
