Electricity Demand Update

Average savings for the weekend (3-4 May) were 3%. Weekend savings have been running well below weekday savings so far, with last weekend's (26-27 April) numbers averaging under 1%.

Seeing them trending towards weekday savings is good, said Winter Power Taskforce co-ordinator, Patrick Strange.

* Total consumption for Saturday was 88.1 GWh, versus 89.9 GWh for the equivalent day last year.
* Total consumption on Sunday was 87.1 GWh, versus 88.8 GWh last year. Importantly, both days were less than the previous weekend, despite the cooler weather over some of the country.

* Hydro storage at midnight last night (Sunday 4 May) was 1983 GWh - only 65% of average, but up from 1944 the day before.
