Hi , The Sustainable Business Network runs a series of breakfast seminars on environmental and social issues related to business.

The next seminar is on Triple Bottom Line Reporting next week and we have some industry experts talking about the experience of companies who have implemented a TBL report. It will be a very informative seminar. Breakfast Seminar Practical Triple Bottom Line Reporting Tuesday May 13th 7.30am start Auckland Town Hall Level 2- Entrance by clock tower on Queen Street.

INTRO The Triple Bottom Line reporting model says that business performance spans environmental, social as well as economic indicators encompassing wages and benefits, productivity, job creation, environmental factors such as ecological footprint, pollution, waste minimisation and energy efficiency , R&D investments, investments in training and other forms of human capital. For those embracing or considering the Triple Bottom Line there are new challenges and rewards associated with the reporting process. Organisations must identify their key performance areas in relation to the sustainability agenda. They must evaluate how well integrated are their values, strategies, management systems and performance. There are challenges in terms of engaging stakeholders and how to embed the TBL principles within organisational strategy and operations.

At this special breakfast seminar Dr Richard Gordon of Landcare Research < http://www.landcareresearch.co.nz > will describe different TBL reporting journeys based upon experience in New Zealand and overseas. He will talk about the importance of narrative in presenting complex issues, how different organisations have managed sustainability knowledge, and how TBL reporting can contribute to building trust between an organisation and its stakeholders.

Gael Ogilvie, Senior Principal, URS New Zealand < http://www.urscorp.co.nz > will provide an overview of some of the challenges that organisations face in developing TBL reports and integrating environmental and social performance initiatives into day to day business activities. She will discuss the benefits but also the risks associated with increased accountability to, and transparency with, stakeholders. Gael will also provide an overview of report verification what to look for and how to ensure that it will provide assurance on your TBLR.
