Radio One defends Onecard

Radio One defends Onecard

Radio One staff and listeners were surprised at the release of the Foodtown/ Woolworths new loyalty card “Onecard” on Wednesday 7th May. The Foodtown/ Woolworths Onecard is similar in concept to the Radio One Onecard that has been an integral part of Radio One for the last 5 years. The Radio One Onecard has built up a loyal following throughout Radio One listeners and the greater public. Radio One has had the Onecard concept in operation since 1999, prior to that it was known as the Rad One Card.

“We have had calls and emails from listeners expressing their confusion and have made contact with Foodtown/ Woolworths. Unfortunately their initial response has been unfavourable” said Station Manager Viv Hewitt.

“A big part of my job is to promote the Onecard and all of the associated benefits. We are all passionate about all aspects of the station, and Onecard plays a huge part in that” said Promotions Assistant Belinda Sharp.

Radio One is part of bnet, a group of seven student radio stations nationwide and is situated on the Otago University campus in Dunedin. The Onecard is pivotal in generating funds for the station that allow us to provide airtime and profile to New Zealand musicians who do not get commercial radio airtime. Income from Onecard also helps Radio One in providing quality industry standard training to youth who seek much needed experience before entering the media industry.
