New Zealand Property Institute Announces New Awards

The New Zealand Property Institute today announced some new awards, which will recognise people involved in different facets of New Zealand property sector.

Institute CEO, Conor English, said today, "Property is a $420 billion sector. It is important for New Zealand that property continues to perform well. It is therefore important that we recognises people who contribute and achieve excellence, in various ways.

"Property is about people. We want to encourage those in our sector to aspire to excellence, and we want to encourage young new Zealanders to take up a career in the property sector. These awards will assist in doing this".

The Institutes National awards acknowledge key individuals within the wider industry, at the national level, who have extended an outstanding contribution to the property sector in some way. They may or may not be members of the Institute. New awards to be presented at the national level are: the New Zealand Property Institute's Property Industry Award, Young Property Professional of the Year Award, Journalism Award, Academic Award and Innovation in Property Award.

Existing internal awards will also be presented by the Institute for Fellowship and Life Memberships, Honorary Membership (as part of the new Property Leaders programme) and the John.M Harcourt Memorial Award. The Internal awards are designed to commend those members of the Institute who have exerted exceptional participation and dedication to the Institute.

The NZ Property Institute Awards will be highlighted at the upcoming Property Ball to be held on Thursday July 3rd, 2003 at the Hyatt Regency in Auckland, at the same time as the Institute's 2003 annual conference.

"These awards are another step in our sectors evolution. We need to acknowledge our academics, media, youth and innovators, who all make a huge contribution to property's success, " Mr English concluded.

In addition to the above awards the Institute also present a number of Tertiary studies awards and scholarships, in conjunction with the Universities and Industry, however this is a separate initiative, and more information concerning these awards will be provided by the Institute soon.

The following definitions provide the key foundations, to each of the awards to be presented at the Auckland Function on July 3:

New Zealand Property Institute's Property Industry Award

'This award is made to an individual in public or private capacity that has demonstrated the qualities of leadership and vision and/or positively impacted on the property sector, economy and/or community'

New Zealand Property Institute's Young Property Professional Of The Year Award

'This award is presented to recognise excellence in the field of property by a young professional'

New Zealand Property Institute's Journalism Award

'Recognising excellence based on the relevance to; the advancement of the property industry and/or research into the property industry and/or analysis and reporting of the property industry'.

New Zealand Property Institute's Academic Award

'This award will be presented to an academic whom has exerted exceptional research or teaching performance in the field of Property, which has made a major contribution to the property sector'

New Zealand Property Institute's Innovation in Property Award

'Awarded to an individual or team within the property profession whom has demonstrated innovative, professional practice in his/her or their work generally, or in a specific project, which advances work practices in the property profession'

Fellowship Citation

'The Fellowship citation is rewarded to recognise loyalty and contribution to the New Zealand Property Institute'

Life Membership Citations

'The Life membership citation recognises loyalty and dedication to the New Zealand Property Institute'

Honorary Membership

'Awarded to any person who has rendered services to the Institute and/or industry, which, in the opinion of the Board, entitle that person to distinction, or any other person upon whom the Board desires to confer distinction because of the person's knowledge and experience in pursuits connected with the property profession'.

John M. Harcourt Memorial Award

'This award is continued as the premier award for outstanding service to the Valuation Profession'.

Entry to the 2003 New Zealand Property Institute Awards is open to any individual, demonstrating outstanding achievement in the property profession/ industry that meets the applicable award criteria.

The Property Ball, incorporating these Institute Awards, will be an exciting and glamorous event, to be enjoyed by all. Interested parties may include friends and family of recipients and nominees, Institute members, as well as anyone else who has an interest in, a role in, or supports, the property industry at large.

The current awards framework will provide a developmental platform for the Institute to work from, which may see further amendments and enhancements in following years.
