Stagecoach Drive Power Savings

Stagecoach Drive Power Savings

From Thursday evening, 15 May Stagecoach Wellington will replace all electric trolley buses after 6pm each night with diesel buses until further notice. The move will not affect scheduled services.

The shift to diesel power is an attempt to reach the national savings goal as Stagecoach’s network power savings from this move will be between 10 –13%.

“The issues we are facing at the moment with our national power supply mean that as a businesses we have to revise how we run our operation and think of alternatives to reduce our power consumption,” says Ross Martin, Executive Chairman of Stagecoach Asia Pacific.

“We know that Wellingtonian’s love their trolley buses and when we are through the power crisis the service will go back to normal. This is one of the reasons Stagecoach is embarking on a major upgrade of our trolley fleet to extend the life of the trolley buses another 15 years” Mr Martin says.

Trolley buses have been used in the Wellington region for over forty years and are popular because of the low level of noise and air pollutants they emit into the environment.

Stagecoach has over 200 buses in their Wellington fleet, 60 of which are trolley buses.
