8 Top Blokes Selected

The NZ National Fieldays Society is proud to announce the eight finalists in the inaugural Fieldays Rural Bachelor of the Year competition.

The competition attracted eligible blokes from all over New Zealand who were keen to try their luck at gaining the national title. With a careful selection process completed, the pick of the bunch have been chosen to attend Fieldays 2003. They will compete over the four days of Fieldays in heats which will judge their 'ruralness' and 'bachelorness'.

The eight finalists are:

" Ted Lord of Huntly

" Brad Saxton of Tokoroa

" Christopher Bunnik of Morrinsville

" Eamon Balle of Pukekohe

" Grant Charteris of Waipawa

" James Hermansen of Ngatea

" Matthew Sherriff of Te Awamutu

" Tim Stafford of Marton

They will be housed in a secret location Bachelor Pad throughout the event and will compete in several heats during each day. Dressed in their Swanndri uniforms, the Bachelors will have to drive a digger, use a chainsaw, ride a mechanical bull, cook on a BBQ, read poetry, deliver pick-up lines and generally display characteristics of a good kiwi bloke.

The competition has been sponsored by the Waikato Times and ZM radio station. Along with these sponsors thousands of dollars worth of prizes have been kindly supplied by Waikato Draught, Stihl, Moanui, Accom Gold Coast, BBQ Factory, Luffly and Swanndri.

The Waikato Times are running a People's Choice Award and people can vote for their favourite rural bachelor at the Waikato Times site at Fieldays.

The Fieldays Rural Bachelor of the Year will be decided at Fieldays 11-14 June and the winner will be announced at 1pm on Saturday 14 June.
