Forecast for Fieldays: Bright and Busy
With all the fine and dry weather we've been having lately, you'd almost be forgiven for forgetting that winter has arrived and NZ National Agricultural Fieldays is almost here.
Continuing fine weather will be a delight to over 120,000 visitors expected to flock to the Fieldays at Mystery Creek, next week.
There's no chance of being bored at Fieldays, attractions include the tractor pull and fencing championships, as well as the popular Ag Art Wear competition and the 4WD demonstrations, to name just a few.
The newest competition at Fieldays is the Rural Bachelor of the Year competition; eight finalists will compete in a number of heats over the four days of Fieldays for the infamous title.
With over 900 exhibitors showcasing agricultural products and services, as well as competitions, seminars, displays and demonstrations there'll be plenty to see and do.
This year's premier feature 'e-farming- A Platform for Success' is the centre of all the action. As part of the feature a giant computer screen and keyboard have been erected on the side of the Mystery Creek Pavilion. The 4x5 metre screen will broadcast live pictures from around the site along with examples of e-farming in action.
NZ National Fieldays Society General Manager, Barry Quayle, says "Smart e-farming is important for the growth of New Zealand's agricultural economy. It will help our rural sector to keep at the forefront of global competitiveness" he said.
The gates will be open for the 35th annual Fieldays in less than a week and it's looking bigger, brighter and better than ever.
Fieldays 2003 will be held from 11-14 June at Mystery Creek, Hamilton.
