Kiwi Innovation makes its debut at Mystery Creek

A new type of barn will make its debut at the National Fielddays at Mystery Creek next week, but what makes this barn truly unique is, that unlike a traditional timber barn, not only is the barn portable but it’s also inflatable.

Inventor, Geoff Pearson, says the new Airbarns as they are called, will revolutionise the corporate event market in New Zealand. So why launch at Field Days, the traditional stomping ground for farmers and farm products?

“The Airbarns are really versatile, when I invented the product I wanted something that would be multi-functional across a range of industries”, says Geoff.

The new Airbarns can be used for everything from storing hay, stock food, fertilizer, sheep and cattle through to corporate product launches or mobile workshops. The standard Airbarn system consists of two units, the Lobby (6 x 6 metre) and Airbarn (6 x 10 metre) which can be joined together.

Made from an incredibly tough nylon fabric, the fabric can withstand extreme weather conditions, is easy to dry, warm in winter, a sun shelter in summer and is available in over 200 different colours. Customised units are available in PVC.

Geoff is certain the Airbarn will be in hot demand. “The Airbarn has so many more advantages than regular marquees that are used in the events industry. It can be hard to find large marquees for events and if you do they are often hard to put up, incredibly labour intensive and weather proofing is always a problem.”

The Airbarn combats all of these hassles, it’s large and best of all the Airbarn comes with a blower which means that the Airbarn can be delivered and easily erected in minutes by one person. It packs away into a bag to give lightweight portability and an effortless storage solution when not in use.

One advocate of the Airbarn is Tim Fearnley a Fire Safety Officer who is using an Airbarn as a portable classroom to deliver fire safety messages to children throughout the region.

“The Airbarn is a great product to use and has really been pivotal in the Fire Department being able to travel around to schools and teach kids about the dangers of fire. The Airbarn is so easy to use and means that we can combine a classroom and fun area in one. Once the kids have heard our fire messages they can go through to the bouncy castle portion of the Airbarn, which we fill with smoke to reinforce our ‘get down, get low and get out’ message. The kids love it.”

Geoff is sure that the Airbarn will be a hit with the farming fraternity at Fielddays.

“Storing additional hay for the winter or keeping weaners warm during frosts can be problematic for farmers and costly too when stock or produce is lost to cold weather. The Airbarn can provide a cheap, warm, safe environment for stock and produce.

One farmer says “it’s different that’s for sure, but I can certainly see the advantages. Storage is always a problem on my farm, but so is the cost of building barns and the loss of pasture. The Airbarn would be a great alternative and definitely more cost effective than a brand new kit-set barn.”
