Sustainable development reporting
Shell New Zealand today released its third Business Review and Sustainability Report focusing on Shell’s performance with its key stakeholders, on matters of health, safety, the environment, society and the economy.
Shell Chairman, Dr. Lloyd Taylor, said today “The report focuses on demonstrating our performance against each of the seven sustainable development principles which define the Shell Group’s approach to achieving a sustainable future.
“This independently verified report is a benchmark of how well we are adhering to these principles.”
“The report needs to be read alongside the 2002 business financial results, released today, to obtain an overview of the Shell New Zealand business and its contribution to our society.
“In 2002, the longer term continuity of energy supply for the nation has been uppermost in our minds as we have worked with the Government, our customers and other key stakeholders in reaching a common understanding of Maui reserves and the role Maui and other yet to be developed gas fields will play in smoothing a transition to a ‘post Maui’ energy supply era,” said Dr. Taylor.
“The report documents our progress in this critical area, as well as our commitment to ongoing community programmes, open dialogue, transparency in our operations and our commitment to community monitoring”.
Copies of the Business Review and Sustainability Report 2002 / 03 may be obtained from Shell’s Corporate Communications Manager.
