Last Week For Visa Champions of Rugby Nominations

August 20, Wellington: Less than a week remains to nominate unsung heroes of New Zealand rugby for the last five places on Visa’s Champions of Rugby Team to go to the Rugby World Cup 2003 semi-finals in Sydney. Visa is a major sponsor of the Cup and is on a nationwide search for the 15 most worthy supporters of rugby in New Zealand to send to the semi-finals.

Nominations can be made on www.visachampions.co.nz.

Friends and families have nominated nearly 1800 candidates since Visa began the Champions search in May. Ten Champions have been selected so far and five more will be selected early in September. Each winner, plus their nominator, will receive tickets, travel and accommodation for both Rugby World Cup 2003 semi-finals in November.

The team selectors are Rugby World Cup 2003 Visa Ambassador and legendary player Zinzan Brooke, sports editor Campbell Mitchell, broadcaster Murray Deaker and ardent fan Carole Hirst from Auckland.

Nominations close on August 26.

One more winner, the People’s Choice, will be selected based on public voting that begins on September 1 after the final five Champions have been selected. Voters can choose from any of the other candidates nominated. Voting is through the site at www.visachampions.co.nz
