New Sunshine Coach Donated Following Fitzy's Ford Classic Golf Day

The annual Fitzy's Ford Classic Golf Day was held recently at Gulf Harbour Country Club, and raised $35,000 for Variety – The Children's Charity. The money raised went directly to one important project – the purchase of a new Ford Econovan Sunshine Coach for a needy organisation.

The new coach was dedicated to Youth Horizons Trust, who assist in transporting children with severe conduct disorder to and from school and associated activities around the Auckland area.

CEO of Youth Horizons Trust, Jeff Richardson, said that the van would be used for the benefit of the students involved in the education programmes run and utilised by the trust.

"The Sunshine Coach will ensure that these children are able to develop and interact through specialist opportunities that would have been previously unavailable to them, often as a result of a lack of transportation," he said.

Over 150 students have participated in programmes run by Youth Horizons Trust since it was created in 1998.

"It is heartwarming to see the support that an event such as this receives," said the Managing Director of Ford New Zealand, Richard Matheson.

"This support comes not just from corporate teams, but also people who participate simply because they believe in the cause."

Over 20 teams participated in the tournament, and celebrities who gave of their time included Mike King, Simon Doull, Scott Styris, Simon Dallow, Julie Coney, Joe Stanley, Alan and Gary Whetton and Sean Fitzpatrick.

Ford and Variety – The Children's Charity, have been helping New Zealand help New Zealand’s kids since 1989.
