Transend Wins International Award

New Zealand Post subsidiary, Transend Worldwide Limited, has received international recognition for its work with the United Kingdom postal service, Royal Mail.

The postal consulting company was awarded Royal Mail First Class Supplier 2003 in the Information Systems/Information Technology Category for supplying a product using transport optimisation systems to facilitate the complete design of Royal Mail’s physical inland mail and courier distribution to deliver major cost reductions.

The product, PLANZ, is a system helping postal and courier organisations to identify the most efficient way to structure and schedule their networks. Benefits to postal organisations include reduced distribution costs, reduced planning time-scales, evaluation of strategic distribution opportunities, improved information management and improved network knowledge.

Royal Mail is set to make savings of £90 million per year and see a 35% reduction in CO2 output as a direct result of the adoption of the PLANZ system.

General Manager of Transend, Bruce Heesterman, said that the award, and the prestige associated with it, come at an opportune time with Transend staff heading to Europe next week to market the company’s products and expertise at an international postal expo.

“The award is terrific recognition of both the London-based Transend sales team and the PLANZ product. The route optimisation software has enabled Royal Mail to implement lasting transport and network changes that reduce costs and improve services. We’re very proud to have been part of that.”

The Royal Mail First Class Supplier Awards are given annually. London-based Transend employee, David Allan, attended the awards ceremony in the UK last week to receive the award.
