New Zealand Wineries Total 420
The face of the New Zealand wine industry is
dramatically changing with a growing number of smaller
wineries and a greater diversity of new grape
varieties.
As the wine industry continues to grow, so does New Zealand’s most comprehensive wine publication. Cuisine Wine Country 2004, will feature 420 wineries - 60 more than last year - ranging from small boutique operations to some of the most expansive.
Editor of Cuisine Wine Country, Lyn Barnes says there has been considerable change in the industry over the past year which has been reflected in the 300-page bible of where to taste, eat, stay and explore.
“Several architecturally designed and award-winning wineries have opened their doors in the last 12 months and enormous amounts of money have been poured into their visitor facilities.
“New wine regions are emerging, such as central Hawke’s Bay and Taupo and new boutique wineries have surfaced in unexpected, remote areas,” she says.
Winemakers are becoming more adventurous with new grape varieties, according to Lyn Barnes.
“Pinot Gris is one of the fastest-growing new varieties as New Zealand wine drinkers show a growing thirst to experiment with new wine styles. Pinot Noir is the new Sauvignon Blanc with virtually every region producing it now,” says Lyn Barnes.
Five of Cuisine’s writers - Vic Williams, Warren Barton, Mavis Airey, Charmian Smith and Tessa Nicholson - have collaborated to produce the definitive guide to the very best in the industry. Four and five-star results from Cuisine magazine’s highly respected wine tastings over the past 12 months have also been included within winery reviews.
Award-winning food writer and Cuisine’s restaurant editor, Lauraine Jacobs, recommends places to taste wine, eat, stay and explore with a real focus on each region’s unique food offerings.
Lyn Barnes says Cuisine Wine Country 2004 is the perfect companion for exploring New Zealand’s wonderful wine regions and to make it even easier, a free AA map of the wine regions is included.
Cuisine Wine Country 2004 will be on sale from Monday 6th October at $16.95 incl GST. Copies can be ordered by phoning (09) 307 0702, freephone 0800 42 42 43, emailing subs@cuisine.co.nz or through www.cuisine.co.nz
