New Look Christchurch Mail
The Christchurch Mail has been given a facelift of massive proportion. The new version appeared last week, and the hands-on treatment from senior journalists at The Press is obvious.
The 48 page tabloid style first issue featured a boldly designed new masthead and page layouts, and unashamedly had local identities Dan Carter and Hayley Westenra on the front page.
Promoting a page 3 Bird (which turns out to be one of 100 Christchurch resident species of the feathered kind), and a news feature entitled "Exposed", the Christchurch Mail intends to deliver community news in an upbeat style.
The Press general manager, Chris Jagusch says there's plenty of punch in the revamped paper.
“Our readers welcome the opinion pieces in the paper, and refreshing approach to delivery of community news.”
The paper also has gardening, local sport, fashion, food, and entertainment sections, eight pages of classified advertisements, and reader competitions (the prize in this weeks issue is tickets, travel, and accommodation for the league test in Auckland).
Published Wednesdays, the Christchurch Mail is distributed as a TMC to all 113,000 Christchurch city households, but features three change-out editions each of 37,000 based on the city wards.
The Christchurch Mail is part of the Fairfax New Zealand group, and now operates in tandem with its sister newspaper The Press, with advertising packages tailored to encourage use of both publications.
