Freedom Air’s Birthday Giveaway Takes Off

Freedom Air’s 8th Birthday give away of one million dollars worth of travel has attracted a record numbers of visitors to the company’s website.

By 4pm today the site at www.freedomair.com had received approximately 3.6 million hits as people clambered to book the 5,000 seats that went up for grabs at midday today (NZ time). The airline’s website receives approximately 1.4 million hits on an average day.

Michael Young, Freedom Air’s acting General Manager, says the response has been phenomenal. “It’s been an absolute ‘Freedom Frenzy’ online today. The huge amount of people trying to access the site has caused delays however bookings have been strong with 1,000 flights being booked in the first two hours.”

The give away will continue until midday tomorrow (Tuesday 11 November NZ time) or until all seats are gone – it’s first in, first served. All would-be passengers have to do to be in for a chance to secure their seat is book on the website at www.freedomair.com and pay their own taxes and insurance surcharges.

The birthday giveaway seats are for travel between 08 May 2004 – 25 June 2004, and are available on selected flights across every Freedom Air route.

Freedom Air’s first flight took off from Auckland Airport in 1995 carrying passengers from Auckland to Sydney. Since then Freedom has carried more than two million passengers. It now operates between ten ports in New Zealand and Australia, with 52 services per week.

Freedom Air believes its success is based on the company’s philosophy of offering everyone the freedom to travel to exciting destinations at a price within their reach. “Our really really small airfares and friendly service makes travel more affordable for more people,” Young says. “Activities like our big birthday giveaway are a true reflection of what Freedom Air is all about – fun and friendly no-frills travel.”

Along with the travel give away, Freedom Air also celebrated its birthday inflight with fun and games for passengers travelling today.
