Airport laptop security checks to ease
Frequent travellers with laptop computers will find it easier to pass through airport security checks from Monday (November 17).
Passengers at present have to remove laptops from their carry cases so Aviation Security Service (Avsec) officers can inspect them. However, from Monday, most laptops will require only x-ray scanning.
“The Aviation Security Service has completed systems testing and is now confident with the x-ray screening process as the primary form of inspection of laptops,” says Mark Everitt, General Manager of the Aviation Security Service.
Avsec officers might still require a physical inspection if there is any doubt about the brand of the laptop or if more than one laptop or other articles are carried in the carry case.
“The new inspection standard is designed to improve passenger facilitation and be less intrusive, without compromising aviation security”, Mr Everitt says.
